Pushkar Singh Dhami takes oath as Uttarakhand chief minister | India News

NEW DELHI: Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday took oath as the 11th chief minister of Uttarakhand.
He was administered the oath of office by governor Baby Rani Maurya at a ceremony held in Raj Bhawan in Dehradun.
BJP MLAs Satpal Maharaj, Harak Singh Rawat, Bansidhar Bhagat and Yashpal Arya also took oath as ministers in the new Uttarakhand cabinet.
Bishan Singh Chuphal, Subodh Uniyal, Arvind Pandey, Ganesh Joshi, Dhan Singh Rawat, Rekha Arya and Swami Yatishwaranand also took oath as ministers.
They were all part of the previous cabinet as well.
Dhami, 45, was picked for the top post during the BJP’s legislature meeting on Saturday.

According to reports, several senior BJP leaders in the Uttarakhand unit were unhappy over Dhami’s elevation, triggering fears of no-show by several ministers who were part of the old cabinet.
The BJP went into a damage control mode and spent most of the morning pacifying the senior leaders.
Ahead of his oath, Dhami himself called on some of the leaders who were said to be sulking over his appointment.
Dhami met Satpal Maharaj at his residence in Dalanwala and offered him a bouquet of flowers.
He is understood to have persuaded the senior leader, whose name was among the half-a-dozen names doing the rounds until Saturday as probables for the chief minister’s post.
Dhami has replaced Tirath Singh Rawat, whose 4-month tenure came to an end amid uncertainty over the Election Commission holding bypolls in the state. Rawat, a BJP MP, had to get elected as an MLA within six months of taking office to continue in his post.
Dhami is now the hill state’s youngest chief minister.
