KOCHI: Senior bishops of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church on Wednesday met RSS joint general secretary Manmohan Vaidya in Kochi.
Orthodox bishop Geevarghese Mar Yulios, metropolitan in charge of Ahmedabad diocese and Yakoob Mar Irenaios of the Kochi diocese met the RSS functionary. It was the same delegation that had met the leadership of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at Panakkad in January.
Mar Yulios said the meeting was not related to politics. Rather, there was general discussion on topics, including the non-implementation of a 2017 SC verdict that had brought finality to a century-old dispute between two factions of the Malankara Church. “There is now doubt whether the state would act against the verdict. Moreover, some people are conducting rallies to wantonly abuse the Orthodox Church. Hence, we are on a mission to communicate with other organisations on the truth. The meeting with RSS as well as IUML was in this context,” he said.
