NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s fight to make Bengal ‘Sonar Bangla‘ is between its booth workers and the syndicate run by the ruling Trinamool Congress, said Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday at a roadshow in Kolkata.
Launching the fifth phase of BJP’s ‘Poribartan Yatra’, ahead of assembly elections this year, the Union minister said, “Jay Shree Ram slogan is a protest against appeasement politics in the state.”

The Union minister said that West Bengal chief minister Mamata Bannerjee started worshipping Goddess Saraswati in public only because of BJP’s pressure.
“Shouldn’t Durga Puja take place in West Bengal? Court permission needs to be obtained for it. Shouldn’t Saraswati Puja take place? She had stopped it, only after BJP’s pressure she was seen worshipping Goddess Saraswati. Didi, Bengal knows that you stopped ‘Saraswati pujan’ in schools,” said Shah.

“Our aim is to not remove the Mamata Banerjee’s government. Our aim is to ensure that situation in West Bengal changes. The state of poor and the state of women should change in Bengal,” said Shah.
Shah held Thursday’s roadshow from Kali Mandir to SBI, Kakdwip branch, and South 24 Parganas.
The Union minister listed a string of poll promises including 33 per cent reservation for women and financial security for 5 lakh fisherman under a special scheme if BJP wins 2021 state assembly elections.
“If voted to power BJP will form seventh pay commission in the state and Gangasagar will be turned into an international tourist destination,” said Shah.

BJP and the ruling TMC are locked in a tight battle for the upcoming assembly elections.

On natural calamities in Bengal, Shah said that if BJP wins it will constitute a task force to save lives from cyclones, environmental disasters.
In 2020, West Bengal was ravaged by cyclone Amphan, the biggest natural disaster witnessed by the state to date.
“We will probe corruption in disbursing of Amphan relief funds if voted to power,” said Shah.
Bharat Sevashram Sangha will help India’s self-reliance quest: Shah
Shah arrived in Kolkata earlier in the day and visited Bharat Sevashram Sangha and Kapil Muni Ashram. This is Shah’s second visit in a week to the poll-bound state. Shah had last visited Bengal on February 11.

The Union minister said that the path trodden by the Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) will significantly help India to transform into a self-reliant country.
Shah, who visited the headquarters of the charitable organisation, said the BSS will hopefully continue to move forward on the path it has travelled so far and pave the way for a new ‘Hindustan’.
Shah also said both Syama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh, and BSS founder Swami Pranavananda had shared similar ideologies and worked for the country.

Claiming that West Bengal is existing today because of Mukherjee, he said, “Otherwise, it would have gone to Bangladesh.”
During his 40-minute visit to the organisation’s office here, Shah was briefed about the relief works carried out by it during natural disasters.
After the roadshow, Shah will also visit the Aurobindo Bhawan in the evening.
