JANGIPUR: Bengal minister Jakir Hossain — who was grievously injured in an explosion at Nimtita railway station on February 17 — took a helicopter ride from Kolkata to Murshidabad, sat through a 2.5km drive to the SDO office and covered a flight of stairs on a stretcher to file his nomination on Tuesday as a TMC candidate from Jangipur assembly constituency.
The junior minister for labour is due for a reconstructive surgery on his right hand. It will take at least three more months for his treatment to be over.
On a four-day “leave” from hospital, Hossain furnished certificates signed by eight doctors so that he could put his left thumb impression on the nomination paper. After reaching the SDO office, Hossain had trouble getting out of his car and a stretcher was brought to take him to the first floor for filing of the nomination.
