NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrested Sachin Waze’s aide, Riyaz Kaji, in Mumbai in connection with the explosive-laden SUV found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani‘s residence, NIA official said.
Kazi was called for questioning again by NIA on Sunday and later placed under arrest, he said.
As per news agency ANI, Riyaz Kazi, who faces charges of destroying evidence, will reportedly be produced before a holiday court later today.
Kaze was an assistant police inspector (API) in the Mumbai Crime Branch before being shunted out last month.
Sachin Vaze is also being investigated in connection with the death of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiran, who was fund dead in a creek on March 5. Hiran’s Scorpio was allegedly used by Vaze to plant explosives outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence Antilia on February 25.
The NIA took over both the cases last month from the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) last month, following orders from the Union home ministry.
The NIA had arrested Vaze on March 13 after taking over the probe into the explosive-laden vehicle. On Friday Waze was produced before a special NIA court that sent him to judicial custody till April 23, 2021.
The agency has recorded the statement of Kaji and several others. The agency also recorded the statement of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh in connection with the case.
After arresting Vaze, the NIA has recovered several high-end cars being used by him.
