Social impact organization and NGO Sanmat recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tribal Welfare Commissioner, Department of Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste, Minority and Backward Class Welfare, Jharkhand, for the betterment of tribal communities in the state. Under this collaboration, both Sanmat and the Tribal Welfare Commissioner of Jharkhand will aim to achieve the scale required to address any adverse impact in case of a pandemic or disaster and ensure support to the public systems and the communities residing in the 992 hard-to-reach areas in 55 blocks across 13 districts in the state. While Sanmat will be responsible for executing programs, the Tribal Welfare Commissioner will monitor and supervise the execution under the MoU.

As part of this collaboration, Sanmat will be supporting the Tribal Welfare Commissioner’s office in the elimination of Sickle Cell Disease and Epilepsy by spreading awareness and mass screening, followed by a proper treatment plan and to combat the spread and management of sickle cell anemia, it has initiated sickle cell information and treatment centers in 14 welfare hospitals. With regard to the state’s healthcare initiatives, Sanmat will support the design and development of interventions to improve the health and nutrition of tribal children, pregnant ladies, mothers, and seniors of tribal communities through special mobile medical unit operations.


 


Sharing his excitement at the collaboration, Mr. Amit Kumar Choubey, CEO of Sanmat, said, “We are glad and grateful to TWC for giving us this opportunity to serve the people in Jharkhand. We have impacted approximately 2.31 crore lives nationally, with almost 23 lakh individuals being affected directly by our initiatives in Jharkhand, and I am sure this MoU will be a great driving force to reach out to more people. Bridging the gap between government policies and their implementation is core to Sanmat’s mission, and we will continue to impact lives through effective implementation across regions and sectors.”


 


With regards to the livelihood and tribal welfare aspects, under the MoU, Sanmat will be working with subjudice prisoners, providing legal support to them while simultaneously imparting skills training to include them in their livelihood initiatives and has also ​​created a pool of 16 advocates, with the Tribal Welfare Commissioner set to provide space for court practice. Sanmat will also offer a Tribal Development Fellowship to support various programs of the state without any financial support from TWC (Tribal Welfare Commissioner).

Sanmat’s innovative development models and well-researched strategies help in the easy identification as well as implementation of various government schemes.
