NEW DELHI: In the second major attack on security forces in Bastar in the past 10 days, at least five jawans were killed and several others were injured in a Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bijapur district on Saturday.
However, as per the latest development, ANI reports that at least 15 jawans have now gone missing in Sukma district on Sunday.
The bodies of two out of five jawans who died in the encounter have been recovered, Chhattisgarh Police sources told ANI.
Among injured jawans, 23 have been admitted to Bijapur Hospital, the sources said.
“At least 15 jawans missing after yesterday’s Sukma encounter. A reinforcement party rushed to the spot. Bodies of 2 out of 5 jawans who died in encounter recovered. Among injured jawans, 23 admitted to Bijapur Hospital and 7 to Raipur hospital,” Chhattisgarh Police Sources was quoted by ANI as saying.

On Friday, over 400 security personnel from CoBRA, STF, DRG and CRPF set off on a joint operation.
On Saturday afternoon, some of the personnel were attacked. The Maoists are believed to have suffered heavy casualties, the Chhhattisgarh home minister said, adding both parties used mortars and sophisticated weapons in the face-off.
