BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya on Friday hit out at chief minister Mamata Banerjee for her handling of a protest at Oxford University, where an angry group of protesters confronted her with slogans condemning her for alleged violence against Hindus and women.

Malviya claimed that Banerjee appeared a “meek shadow” of her usual self and called for a free and fair election in West Bengal, asserting that she would be voted out if state machinery and police misuse were curbed.
During her address at Kellogg College, Oxford University in London on Thursday, Banerjee was interrupted by a group of protesting students who attempted to disrupt her speech by raising concerns about post-poll violence and the RG Kar College scandal.
Handling the situation, Banerjee responded to the protesters, saying, “Tell your party to increase its strength in our state (West Bengal) so they can fight with us.”
“The usually belligerent Mamata Banerjee, ensconced in the protection of the West Bengal Police, was a meek shadow of herself at Kellogg College when angry Hindu Bengalis confronted her with slogans condemning her for the genocide of Hindus and the numerous cases of rape and murder of women, including those at RG Kar and Sandeshkhali,” Malviya wrote in a post on X.
“Let the 2026 election in West Bengal be free and fair, and she will be voted out. The misuse of state machinery, particularly the police, who double up as TMC cadres, must be curtailed, and she will surrender like any weak dictator,” he added.
Earlier, Malviya called Mamata Banerjee a disgrace to West Bengal, claiming the Hindu Bengali diaspora wants her removed as chief minister for ruining Bengal’s legacy and subjecting them to humiliation.
“Just a few posters that were held up to Mamata Banerjee… She is a disgrace to West Bengal. The Hindu Bengali diaspora wants her out as the Chief Minister for destroying Bengal’s legacy and putting them through such ignominy,” Malviya wrote in a post.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal accused Banerjee of promoting anti-India rhetoric in her speech at Oxford University.
“Just like Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee went abroad with an anti-India agenda. Her politics revolves around facilitating the entry of Bangladeshis into Bengal and the country, even providing them with Aadhar cards. She has made it clear that she stands against India,” BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal told ANI.
During a Q&A session Mamata Banerjee responded to a comment about India overtaking the UK as the fifth-largest economy, with the interviewer predicting it will become the third-largest by 2060 and the world’s top economy.
When asked about the statement, Mamata replied, “I will differ from that…If an economic war-like situation is going on in the world, how do we expect that we will gain? Let us hope for the gain, we can only hope.”
